Ravassa and colleagues identified a subgroup of hypertensive patients with HF with a higher independent risk of HF hospitalization and CV mortality compared to other patients in their study via the application of a combination of two circulating biomarkers—serum CITP:MMP-1 ratio and serum PICP—leading to the development of a distinct phenotype of MF [21,57]. This evidence concerns the gene MMP1 and hydrops fetalis.
