MITF and melanoma: We recently described how stimulation of B16-F10 melanoma cell line, human melanocytes, and human ex vivo skin with αMSH, in the presence of the PI3K inhibitor LY294002, resulted in reactive oxygen species increase, oxidative DNA damage, and evident accumulation of intracellular pigment, which was associated with a significant up-regulation of MITF expression, the main regulator of pigmentation [14], able to reduce migrative and invasive properties of melanoma cells [38].
