Recently, a critical role for SIRT6 in vascular inflammation is emerging with a consensus on SIRT6 exerting anti-inflammatory effects in vascular ECs: SIRT6 mediates the anti-inflammatory effect of hydroxytyrosol acetate, a polyphenolic compound in olive oil, and exerts a protective effect on cholesterol crystal-induced endothelial dysfunction [5,6]. This evidence concerns the gene SIRT6 and endothelial dysfunction.
