In order to verify the suitability of our ex vivo model to mimic skin inflammation, we analyzed the effects of two distinct inflammatory agents mimicking either exogenous or endogenous stimuli: dithranol, a synthetic chemical able to induce a contact dermatitis phenotype in 24 h [21,22,23], and the neuropeptide substance P, an endogenous substance mimicking the early stages of neurogenic inflammation [24]. The gene discussed is TAC1; the disease is contact dermatitis.
