SREBP-1 and PPARα are transcription factors relevant in hepatic lipid regulation, with SREBP-1 controlling cholesterol and lipid biosynthesis and PPARα being a key regulator of peroxisomal, mitochondrial, and microsomal fatty acid oxidation; in fact, ovariectomy depleted estrogen-induced protection from steatosis in female mice by reversing SREBP-1 and PPARα activation states [20].
