The efficacy of saroglitazar in counteracting NAFLD/NASH has been compared to that of fenofibrate, a PPARα agonist, and pioglitazone, a PPARγ agonist, showing that the combined action of saroglitazar improves lipid-mediated oxidative stress, inflammation and impaired mitochondrial biogenesis more effectively than single agonists, both in vitro and in vivo [35]. This evidence concerns the gene PPARG and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
