Aneuploidy has been shown to be predictive of the progression to high grade dysplasia and EAC from BE and the aberrant DNA methylation of cytosine bases in CG-rich sequences (CPG islands), leading to changes in the expression of tumor suppressors, including CDKN2A, which has been shown to be involved in the development of BE neoplasia and EAC [118].
