To determine the molecular pathway(s) involved in oxaliplatin-mediated CLDN1 overexpression, we first focused on the p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling for two reasons: (i) p38 MAPKs have a role in transducing stress signals from the environment [32] and (ii) they are activated by chemotherapy in CRC cell lines [33]. The gene discussed is CLDN1; the disease is colorectal carcinoma.
