The most common laboratory alterations are elevation of liver enzymes, with serum alanine aminotransferase higher than aspartate aminotransferase (ALT>AST) (54), although transaminase levels may be within limits in more than one third of cases, and hyperferritinemia (55), which has been demonstrated to be a marker of sever histologic damage and an independent predictor for liver fibrosis (56, 57). This evidence concerns the gene GPT and Hepatic fibrosis.
