MAPT and Alzheimer disease: Furthermore, tau, which allows dynamic microtubules to have long, labile ends (Qiang et al., 2018) (see also “Characteristics of dynamic microtubules”), is sequestered into tangles in tauopathies such as Alzheimer’s disease (Lee et al., 2001); consequently, its lower binding to microtubules may reduce the population of dynamic microtubules.
