The authors did not use the term “immune exclusion”, but were able to demonstrate profound differences in immune infiltration between gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma subtypes, with Epstein-Barr Virus positive (EBV+) gastroesophageal adenocarcinomas having high CD8+ densities at the tumor center (ratio cell densities TC : IM > 1) whereas most chromosomal instability (CIN) gastroesophageal adenocarcinomas had clustering of CD8+ T cells at the invasive margin (ratio cell densities at TC : IM < 1). The gene discussed is CD8A; the disease is cervical squamous intraepithelial neoplasia.
