Interestingly, the examination of resected tissue specimens (containing both tumor and normal part) from non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients found that ACE2 transcript detected in tumor part did not correlate with disease stage, whereas expression in normal part was higher in individuals with advanced stages (59).This suggests that normal lung tissue (but not tumour tissue) in NSCLC patients may be key to distinguishing between the expected low and high risk of severe COVID-19. This evidence concerns the gene ACE2 and non-small cell lung carcinoma.
