While early clinical trials did not include non-diabetic patients (Zinman et al., 2015; Neal et al., 2017; Wiviott et al., 2019), recent studies in cardiovascular (Packer et al., 2020) and CKD patients (Heerspink et al., 2021; Herrington et al., 2022) describe a similar reduction of hyperfiltration by SGLT2 inhibitors in patients with non-diabetic nephropathy. This evidence concerns the gene SLC5A2 and chronic kidney disease.
