Consideration of these genes with the candidate genes that had been obtained through the GWAS produced fifteen core genes that were shared by NAFLD and T2D, namely DNAJB9, VPS53, SCGN, CMAS, RGS6, FASLG, ABHD10, ATRN, PLA2G2F, ITIH2, ROBO1, SGCG, SH3GL2, CNR1, and FOXN3 (Table 3). Here, FASLG is linked to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
