Alterations in the genes encoding epigenetic regulators, such as lysine methyltransferases (KMTs), including MLL (also known as KMT2A), and lysine acetyltransferases (KATs), including MOZ (also known as KAT6A and MYST3) and MORF (also known as KAT6B, MYST4, and QKF), cause leukemia by conferring stem cell-like unlimited self-renewal properties to non-stem hematopoietic progenitors1,2.
