Previous studies demonstrated that decreased expression of organic anion transporter 1 (OAT1) was linked to accelerated oxidative stress and inflammation, and loss of sodium/potassium-transporting ATPase subunit alpha-1 (ATPase) as well as aquaporin 1 (AQP1) in TECs are associated with renal fibrosis [38]. The gene discussed is AQP1; the disease is renal fibrosis.
