Multiple myeloma (MM) is an incurable plasma cell malignancy characterized by several chromosomal translocations associated with the heavy chain gene of immunoglobin (IgH) (1), of which t(6;14), t(8;14), and t(14;16) lead to the overexpression of MafB, MafA, and c-Maf, three close members of the Maf transcription factor family (2). The gene discussed is MAF; the disease is plasma cell myeloma.
