IL-10 is identified, together with IL-4, as an inhibitor of metalloproteinase and osteoprotegerin activity in periodontitis, although our study shows that there is no significant difference in the concentration of this cytokine in saliva between the periodontitis and healthy control groups, the literature indicates that the highest levels of IL-10 are associated with the healthy group (32). The gene discussed is TNFRSF11B; the disease is periodontitis.
