In a study of human cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC), researchers identified a specific cell type, tumor‐specific keratinocytes (TSKs), crowding the leading edge of the tumor and confirmed a surrounding fibrovascular niche consisting of cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) and endothelial cells.[154] This confirmation of spatial transcriptomics colocalization was used to support inferences on cell interaction drawn from scRNA‐seq, and subsequently, TSKs were found to be a pillar of intercellular communication. This evidence concerns the gene TSKS and neoplasm.
