CRC cells have evolved a variety of strategies to limit or evade programmed cell death and tumour cells may block the apoptosis process by increasing the expression of antiapoptotic regulators such as Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL, by down-regulating pro-apoptotic factors or by short-circuiting the extrinsic ligand-induced death pathway [2].
