CSF1R and Zika virus infectious disease: Use of CSF1R blockers can deplete microglia and prevent microglial driven inflammatory damage in the eye (Kokona et al. 2018; Okunuki et al. 2019; Tang et al. 2020; Todd et al. 2019), and hence, it is unclear if an increase in CSF-1 would benefit the maintenance of photoreceptors or support a damaging inflammatory response to ZIKV infection driven by microglia, as we have observed, and can occur in vitro in Mueller cells.
