NPC1 and infection: The EBOV-GP populates the viral envelope and promotes viral entryinto the host cell through the recognition of the endosomal Niemann–PickC1 (NPC1) protein.4,5 In this regard, the inhibitionof the NPC1/EBOV-GP interaction, either directly or indirectly (allosterically),was proposed as a therapeutic antiviral strategy to combat EBOV infection.6 Infection with EBOV causes EVD, which is a severeand deadly disease whose symptoms include fever, diarrhea, vomiting, bleeding, and, often, death.7 Managementof the acute EVD was mainly based on supportive care.
