The declining expression of GPER mRNA and protein in the hippocampal CA1 region after stroke reduces the responsiveness of neurons to E2, but E2 treatment immediately after ovariectomy can restore GPER mRNA and protein levels and alleviate ischemic-induced hippocampal neuronal loss, suggesting that GPER mediates the protective effects of E2 on neurons and reduces neuronal loss after neuronal injury (Wu et al., 2018). This evidence concerns the gene GPER1 and stroke disorder.
