Many chemotherapeutic drugs can induce ferroptosis in addition to their primary action (e.g., cisplatin, gemcitabine, sorafenib); in preclinical cancer models their action is increased by co-treatment with ferroptosis inducers, such as drugs that inhibit System Xc−, reduce GSH, inhibit GPX4, or alter intracellular iron levels (Su et al., 2020; Wu et al., 2020; Lei et al., 2022).
