TP53 and neoplasm: Intriguingly, expression of transactivation-defective p53(3K), or ROS generation alone, could not induce ferroptosis, but their combination induced massive ferroptotic cell death (Jiang et al., 2015a; Jiang et al., 2015b); this indicates that p53-dependent ferroptosis may be a crucial tumor-suppressive response to oxidative stress.
