Indeed, the ATTIRE clinical trial of targeted albumin therapy did not show benefit over standard care, and patients in the albumin group, who received 10 times (median of 200 g during hospitalization) as much albumin as those in standard care (20 g), had more severe or life-threatening serious adverse events, especially pulmonary edema or fluid overload (20,21).
