A previous study investigated the mechanism of associations between Herpesviridae infection and neurodegenerative diseases, and found that the Oxidative Stress Defense System and LRRK2 pathways (related to inflammation regulation in response to different pathological stimuli) were shared between Herpesviridae infection (cytomegalovirus, Epstein-Bar virus and human herpesvirus 6) and two neurodegenerative diseases (AD and PD)9. This evidence concerns the gene LRRK2 and Parkinson disease.
