Another MR study reported an association between genetically proxied HMGCR inhibition and increased depression risk (using genetic instruments in/near the HMGCR gene that were associated with LDL-C levels); however, given they combined the effects from multiple genetic instruments that are in moderate LD (r2 = 0.39 in European-ancestry population), their reported effect is likely to be inflated [49].
