Systemic Lmx1b knockdown in mouse is associated with skeletal and kidney defects consistent with Nail-Patella syndrome pathology, leading to neonatal lethality ∼24 h after birth (Chen et al., 1998); meanwhile, conditional podocyte Lmx1b ablation triggers proteinuria linked to podocyte actin disorganization and slit diaphragm failure (Burghardt et al., 2013). This evidence concerns the gene LMX1B and nail-patella syndrome.
