Three indicators of obesity including the percentage of body weight gain, BMI, and abdominal circumference were measured; treatment with ethanolic extract showed antihyperlipidemic and anti-obesity effects; these effects may be due to the presence of caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, α−amyrin, and naringenin in the extract; these secondary metabolites are inhibitors of fatty acid synthase and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha expression in the liver (13, 14). This evidence concerns the gene FASN and obesity disorder.
