For example, while most strains (including C57BL/6J) exhibit metabolic dysfunction in response to high-fat diet feeding, albeit with varying magnitude, certain strains are protected from diet-induced insulin resistance (i.e. BALB/c, WSB/EiJ and CAST/EiJ), hepatic fibrosis (i.e. CAST/EiJ), or weight gain (i.e. A/J, WSB/EiJ and CAST/EiJ), while others (i.e. PWK/PhJ) are more susceptible (Montgomery et al., 2013; Bachmann et al., 2022; Benegiamo et al., 2023). This evidence concerns the gene CAST and Insulin resistance.
