VEGFA and neoplasm: Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a potentpro-angiogenic growth factor which stimulates tumor angiogenesis bystimulating proliferation of endothelial cells and increasing thepermeability (or leakiness) of angiogenic blood vessels.107,108 The treatment of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs)with 2 and 3 (at a concentration of 25 μM)inhibited VEGF-induced cell proliferation and chemotaxis invitro. The ability of 2 and 3 toinhibit VEGF-induced permeability of HUVECs was measured by the sucrosetransport assay.
