In addition to the effects of prostaglandins on impairment of efferocytosis in obesity [discussed above (Hellmann et al., 2013)], it was shown that obesity reduces macrophage erythropoietin (EPO), which elevates PPARγ levels, required for the macrophage pro-reparative phenotype. This evidence concerns the gene PPARG and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
