HIV-1 Infection of macrophages by heterotypic cell fusion requires interaction between the surface viral envelope glycoprotein gp120 expressed on infected T cells and CD4/CCR5 on the macrophage targets, as it was totally abrogated by anti-CD4 and anti-gp120 antibodies, T20, or Maraviroc (Bracq et al., 2017). The gene discussed is ITIH4; the disease is HIV-1 infection.
