By now, in Krabbe disease (KD), also known as globoid cell leukodystrophy (OMIM #245200), several proofs of autophagy impairment were reported and mostly explained by the accumulation of psychosine (PSY) (galactosylsphingosine) that is characteristic of the disease and caused by the deficiency of the lysosomal enzyme galactocerebrosidase (GALC). This evidence concerns the gene GALC and Krabbe disease.
