IL6 and neoplasm: Although the understanding of the molecular basis of the two diseases is far from being fully outlined, common deranged molecular pathways include hormonal dependence [103], chronic inflammation, and downstream signaling pathways involving cytokines such as IL-12, TNF-α, IL-1, IL-1β, and IL-6 [104,105]; downstream signaling pathways mediated by NF-κB, which contributes to tumor progression [106]; IGF1R-modulating angiogenesis [107]; and IL-6/JAK/STAT signaling, which stimulates cell growth and impairs apoptosis [108,109].
