The discovery of the proprotein convertase subtilisin kexin type 9 (PCSK9) inhibitors produced incremental LDL cholesterol lowering in statin-treated patients and was tested in the Global Assessment of Plaque reGression With a PCSK9 antibOdy as Measured by intraVascular Ultrasound (GLAGOV) trial [111], in which 968 participants with angiographic coronary disease were randomized to receive monthly evolocumab (420 mg) (n = 484) or placebo (n = 484). Here, PCSK9 is linked to coronary artery disorder.
