Interestingly, it has been shown that CD36-deficient mice clear glucose more rapidly on a chow diet; however, after switching to a high fructose diet, CD36-deficient mice exhibited significant glucose intolerance compared to wild-type (WT) mice [13], hypothesizing that the paradoxical role of CD36 in insulin signaling may depend on different nutritional stresses.
