The role of IL-6 in the pathophysiology of COVID-19-induced anosmia was discussed in a study by Netland and Collegues which pointed to encouragement in cytokines, especially IL-6, as a proinflammatory response in the brains of infected mice that changes neuronal signaling to cause anosmia (Figure 2) [128]. The gene discussed is IL6; the disease is Kallmann syndrome.
