Oxylipins derived from AA through the cyclooxygenase pathway (COX-1 and COX-2), such as PGF2α, or through the lipoxygenase pathway (5-LOX, 12-LOX and 15-LOX), such as LXB4, were higher in the plasma of severe NAFLD patients compared to the other groups, although 15HETE and LTB4 plasma levels, also derived from AA through lipoxygenases, were similar in all NAFLD stages. This evidence concerns the gene ALOX5 and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
