Additional significant candidates had previously identified functions that are not restricted to the eye but are still related to age, e.g. MEF2C being associated with Alzheimer’s disease (Xue et al., 2021) and multiple candidates (TSPAN11, NKX6-1, SLC16A1, RAET1G, SNTG1, ARRDC3, RASSF3, DIRC3, and GCNT3) associated with cancer (Supplementary file 8). This evidence concerns the gene MEF2C and early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
