P/LP variants in BRCA1 confer a higher risk for breast cancer compared to P/LP variants in BRCA2 (Saslow et al. 2007) and RRM in women with asymptomatic BRCA1 P/LP variants has been shown to have improved survival compared to those who opted for IBS (Heemskerk-Gerritsen et al. 2019). This evidence concerns the gene BRCA1 and irritable bowel syndrome.
