C15orf48 (also known as Normal Mucosa of Esophagus-Specific Gene 1 protein [NMES1] and Modulator of Cytochrome C Oxidase during Inflammation [MOCCI]) was initially found to be downregulated in human esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (13), while another study found that it contributed to the development of colon cancer (14). The gene discussed is COXFA4L3; the disease is esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.
