SGLT2 inhibition is the only approved drug therapy in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), and in CKD, SGLT2 inhibitor therapy is the first major breakthrough since the introduction of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors in the 1990s, since the drugs convincingly delay loss of kidney function (41–43). The gene discussed is ACE; the disease is chronic kidney disease.
