While this contrasts our current findings that the AIM2 inflammasome promotes Helicobacter‐driven gastric inflammation, these findings nonetheless suggest a dichotomous role for AIM2 in which it promotes early stage Helicobacter infection–driven gastritis in an inflammasome‐dependent manner, and late‐stage cytokine–driven gastric tumorigenesis independent of inflammasomes. The gene discussed is AIM2; the disease is gastritis.
