The inconsistency in the reported associations of epicardial adipose tissue mRNA expression of resistin, RBP4, and adiponectin with CAD in the literature may challenge the notion that these adipokines produced by epicardial adipose tissue could be causally linked with coronary atherosclerosis through a paracrine effect [13–16, 34, 35]. The gene discussed is RETN; the disease is coronary artery disorder.
