MASP2 and COVID-19: It is known that the circulating viral particles can trigger complement activation through the MBL pathway and cause microvascular injury in the adult COVID-19.47 Magro et al11 found that mannose-binding protein-associated serine protease 2 (MASP-2) deposits were present in biopsies of lung and skin tissue, thus highlighting a potential contribution of the complement pathway to the process of thrombotic microvascular injury through endothelial damage and subsequent activation of the coagulation cascade.
