In AKI settings, such silencing has demonstrated that the caspase-3 siRNA improved ischemic reperfusion (IR) injury with reduced caspase-3 expression and apoptosis, better renal oxygenation and acid–base homeostasis, and the silencing IKKβ using siRNA diminished inflammation and protected the kidneys against IR injury (113). The gene discussed is CASP3; the disease is acute kidney injury.
