IL17A and infection: T helper cells are the main producer of IL-17 in addition to other T cells subsets, such as γδT and natural killer T. IL-17 can modulate the immunological function against infections by inducing the proinflammatory cytokine, anti-pathogenic peptide, and chemokine secretion by the responder cells or enhance the disease severity, playing a protective role in genital innate immunity to intracellular pathogens such as bacteria, fungi, and viruses [9].
