Increased levels of cardiac OS biomarkers observed in cardiomyocytes of diabetic mice were significantly decreased upon miR-21 treatment and phospho-Akt and phospho-endothelial Nitric Oxide Synthase (eNOS) overexpression suggesting that miR-21 attenuates cardiac hypertrophy by reducing ROS levels and increasing available NO (131). This evidence concerns the gene AKT1 and cardiac hypertrophy.
