Apoptosis and autophagy were induced by procyanidin b2 in colorectal cancer cells (CRC) in a dose-dependent manner via downregulation of the expression of phosphorylated-phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (p-PI3K), phosphorylated-protein kinase B (p-Akt) and phosphorylated-mammalian target of rapamycin (p-mTOR) of the PI3K/Akt pathway (Zhang et al., 2019). The gene discussed is AKT1; the disease is colorectal cancer.
